Market Volatility on Ukraine Conflict. USDRUB Flies Higher. Price Action Gaps Everywhere!

Welcome to this week’s Market Blast Fundamentals.

I’m Brad Alexander and, on behalf of Valutrades, today we will take a look at USDRUB, Brent Crude (UKOil), Gold (XAUUSD), USDCAD, and EURUSD.

Obviously, the biggest market mover is the ongoing story of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.Screenshot 2022-02-28 at 12.21.27

Gold, for example, opened with a weekend gap into the $1920 range after it peaked last week at $1974.

Price action is falling now, below $1900, and it should fill the gap soon.Screenshot 2022-02-28 at 12.21.36

The news of major Russian Banks being cut off from SWIFT has caused volatility across all markets and we see most USD pairs opening with a gap as well.

We will monitor these today to see if price action fills the gap.Screenshot 2022-02-28 at 12.21.47

With SWIFT being cut off, USDRUB opened at incredible heights, gapping from 83.4 to 112.7.

The Russian Central Bank hiked Interest Rates to 20% but even that did not help the dramatic fall of the Ruble.

Be aware that you may not be able to open positions until volatility returns to normal.

Then, of course, we need to keep an eye on Crude this week as Russia’s major export is oil and a major import for Europe is Russian Oil.Screenshot 2022-02-28 at 12.21.55

Brent Crude opened with a gap and it is still over $100 per barrel but be careful as we expect volatility.Screenshot 2022-02-28 at 12.22.05

And…after all this, we still have an economic calendar full of events including the Non-Farm Payrolls this Friday and a Canadian Interest Rate decision Wednesday.
