WTI Jumps with Supply and Demand. Japan in Focus.

Welcome to this week’s Market Blast Fundamentals.

I’m Brad Alexander and on behalf of Valutrades we will take a look at CADJPY, WTI (US Oil), the Nikkei (JP225), USDJPY, and EURJPY.

The Japanese Yen has been weaker for a while and even good GDP figures this morning couldn’t offset the effects from yesterday’s earthquake.Screenshot 2021-02-15 at 12.00.34

On the other hand, the good GDP figures and the weaker Yen have helped the Nikkei which has just passed 30000.

Freezing temperatures across Texas have severely affected crude oil production which has created supply concerns and boosted the price of WTI.

Good news on vaccines has also helped the price of crude which has got back above $60 per barrel but let’s see if price action will fall and fill the gap, if we get better news on Texas production.

So, a weaker Yen and higher crude oil prices creates opposing forces in a currency pair like CADJPY.Screenshot 2021-02-15 at 12.00.50

We have to zoom out to the weekly chart to see this level of price action from over one year ago.

But watch your economic calendar for events in Canada this week for Retail sales on Friday.Screenshot 2021-02-15 at 12.01.06

And, don’t forget, as of today you can trade futures contracts on the DAX, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the NASDAQ, the S&P 500, Gold, WTI and Brent Crude so you can avoid overnight swap charges on these instruments.

Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel and register on the Valutrades website to get notifications on new content as it happens.

That’s all for now.  Happy trading with Valutrades and we will see you tomorrow.
